A Little Housekeeping for 2024

As we move into our fourth season (THANK YOU!), we’d like to take some time to write up some reminders.

People may not realize how much work has gone into the creation of this airsoft field, and how much work it takes to maintain and expand it.  In addition to that, there is constant wear and tear on bodies and equipment, and thousands of dollars invested.  Field fees, rental fees, swag, merch, “extras” haven’t even started coming close to paying for any of this, but we are not interested in getting rich.  We continue to focus on building, growing, and supporting the northern Maine airsoft community; but we cannot fo it alone, we need your help and support to do it.

Requirements

If you come to a game without any of these items, you will be required to borrow from a friend, or purchase one in The Bunker before you are allowed on the field.  We will rent you an airsoft mask as needed.

  • Eye/Facepro.  All eye protection (eyepro) must be full seal (no shooter’s glasses) and ANSI Z81+ and higher certified.  Everyone under the age of 18 is required to wear rigid full-face protection (facepro) made from metal mesh or strong plastic.  A reminder that dentists are scare in northern Maine… and expensive.
  • Barrel blockers/covers/condoms (not literal condoms) will be required again this year.  You can purchase them at any online retailer, or at the field.
    • Pistols do not need one so long as they are secured in a holster.  Your cargo pocket is not a holster.  Your mag pouch is not a holster.
  • Dead rags – must be red and at least 12″ x 12″.  We do not recommend those Elite Force “low profile MOLLE dead rags.
  • Refillable water vessel of some sort.  Honestly, we don’t care what it is, so long as it holds at least 16 ounces.  There are inexpensive water bottles and milspec canteens available for sale at the field.

Recommendations

These items aren’t required, but they are helpful:

Games

There is a game scheduled every Sunday from Memorial Day Weekend (5/26) to the end of October (10/27), except for Open Farm Day (7/28).

  • Game day schedule has not changed, and will remain:
    • 0800 – “Gates open”
    • 0900 – Check-in begins
    • 0930 – Check-in closes (anyone not here by 930 will not be allowed to play)
    • 1000 – Safety and Mission Briefing
    • 1100 – Startex
    • 1500 – Endex
  • Safety briefs are boring, especially if you’ve been to a lot of games here; however, they are required.  We try to keep our briefs short, but interruptions only prolong the agony.
  • Mission briefs can also be boring, but they’re important.  You should probably listen to them.

Replicas

A reminder that the only projectiles allowed at SAASMaine are 6mm biodegradable BBs purpose-made specifically for airsoft.

Our field limits have not changed, and are still hard limits:

  • General: 1.86j (400 FPS with 0.25g BBs)
    • Full auto with any replica and binary triggers have a 50′ MED, and a secondary is highly recommended.  More on this in a moment.
  • DMR: 2.26j with 75′ MED (440 FPS with 0.25g BBs)
  • BASR: 3.51j with 100′ MED (550 FPS with 0.25g BBs)

LMG requirements are listed here. but haven’t changed (except the MED was raised to 50′ two years ago).  You’ll note that a secondary is recommended, but not required.  If you choose to not run a secondary that fires in semi under the joules limit, you will be expected to NOT fire at players within 50′.  If you do, you will run the risk of not being allowed to run your LMG here.  If your LMG has a fire select switch, you may switch it into semi and not have the MED.  We recommend that you keep it on semi until you are ready to actively suppress (butterbutterjam).

The above also applies for those with a binary trigger.

As a reminder, these limits aren’t in place because we’re spoilsports who don’t want people to have fun; they are in place to help prevent serious injury.  More about that in this blog.

Conduct and Attitude

We’re all here to have fun running through the woods and slinging plastic.  If the game is objective-based, you should probably play the objectives.  While we don’t keep track of who wins every week, we know that you do, and your chances of winning increase the better you play, not how much plastic you send downrange.  A constant negative attitude will ruin the game for others.  Continuously declaring how you think the game should have been written will also ruin the game for others.  If you have a game idea, please write it up and submit it… we will of course take it into consideration.

Toxicity, bigotry, racism, and slurs are not tolerated.  Any and all games are subject to being recorded, and it looks REALLY bad to hear players calling each other derogatory terms (“come on, you fucking pussies!” was not a pleasant representation for the field).  “сука блять” and other foreign-language insults are acceptable, but let’s keep them to a minimum, please.

From Basic Values and Rules:

No person shall be denied participation at Southern Aroostook Action Sports on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation. All forms of sexual harassment are always prohibited. Bullying and intimidation are forbidden unless it is scripted into a role-playing aspect of the game to which all involved parties have consented.

  • All forms of sexual harassment are always prohibited.
  • Do not use any language that is deemed verbally aggressive: threats, slurs, vulgar gestures, or condescending language. Do not call the other team “pussies”. Do not use the word “gay” as a synonym for dumb or lame or stupid.
  • Bullying and intimidation are forbidden unless it is scripted into a role-playing aspect of the game. Even in “pseudo rage” do NOT use slurs or condescending language.

A reminder that there are often kids on the field playing. A reminder that some of YOU are kids. While I’m not going to play “language police”, let’s keep things a little more low-key, especially when there are other kids around. I mean, it doesn’t have to be all Rated G for Disney, but it really also doesn’t need to be a race to the bottom.

A reminder about our standing “no sexual harassment” rule. Sexual harassment is not just making unwanted advances towards someone, but it’s also using sexual, explicit, and vulgar language. Telling your friend to “suck my dick” may not be sexual harassment to them, but it might be to someone nearby who hears you. Also, to further prevent the FCC from showing up and putting all the Baofeng users in prison, we will keep ALL profanities off the radios. Keep all comms professional.

Drug and alcohol use are strictly forbidden on the property at all times.  While pot is legal in Maine, it’s only legal for those 21 years and older and on private property.  This is not your property.  Do not light up a joint on the field (no open flames, no drug or alcohol use), and while we started cracking down on that last season, we will maintain a Zero Tolerance again this season.  We don’t care how “high-functioning” you may be while baked, if you can’t go a few hours without being stoned, don’t know what to tell you.  If you absolutely need a fix, do it in your car, away from everyone.  Please.  Most everyone else is here to play airsoft, not party.

TL;DR->

Yes, we know this is a really long blog and nor pictures to look at.

  • In short:  show up prepared, call your hits, don’t be a dick.
  • Airsoft is a game, and we play it so we can forget how shitty the world can be.
  • Leave your bullshit at home.

Let’s keep it safe and fun!
